CW Will Have Massive Superhero TV Crossover

Bob McFadden

As we speculated when the news dropped that Supergirl would be making the jump to CW, this has increased the potential for future crossovers. Mark Pedowitz, head of CW, has confirmed this in a press conference on May 19, 2016, excitedly commenting, “Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December.” Perhaps exceeding all of our expectations, this mega-crossover will involve all four of the DC Comics shows, including Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. Pedowitz referred to this crossover as “the biggest one ever,” while also using language that suggests that this may even become an annual regularity with their TV properties. All of these characters coming together is the television equivalent of Captain America: Civil War, and is definitely something to be excited about. And we’re not the only ones who are excited. Pedowitz seems super pumped to have these shows all under roof. He feels that Supergirl should have been on The CW from the start, commenting, “The fact it’s now moved to the CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don’t think it will have a big impact on the tone,” as he looks forward to continuing the show on the good path it was already on. Hopefully many of the existing Supergirl fans from when it was on CBS will follow the series to the CW and continue to watch, and with any luck, the move to the CW will rake in even more viewers of the series. With a DC Comics show occupying a slot on four of its five weekday nights in 2016, the initials CW has basically come to mean Comic Watching, with Supergirl on Monday, The Flash on Tuesday, Arrow on Wednesday, and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays. Before the season is all over, they will take a page out of comic books to combine for a huge crossover event. Who would have known a decade ago that Comic Books would be so core in pop culture that there would be a major broadcast network that is practically dedicated to them? What a time to be alive!
