Pokemon Sun and Moon: Starters and Release Date Revealed!

Ben Flygare

In February of this year, on the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, Game Freak and Nintendo announced the next games in the uber-popular series, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. Fans then waited to hear any news of the new games until April but were disappointed when nothing was shown. That all changed today when Game Freak and Nintendo released a new trailer that not only revealed the release date, but showed the new region, characters and starters that the player gets to choose!

The new region is called the Alola region and is a tropical island themed region. As a fan of tropical settings, I am super excited to explore this new land and it seems a lot of fans share that sentiment. A lot of the characters that the trailer showed are dressed in an island-y get up and there seems to be a calm and relaxed aura to them and the areas.

The starters of the new seventh generation are the grass/flying type owl, Rowlet, the fire cat, Litten, and the water type seal, Popplio. My initial thoughts on the three were very surprised at the choices and the designs but I am very pleased with them. Being honest, I will definitely be choosing Rowlet as my starter when the games get released. Along with the starters being shown, the trailer also reveals the two new legendaries who will be featured in each game. The legendary for Sun is a great and regal lion Pokemon and Moon features a cosmic looking bat. The designs for both of them are stunning and I can’t wait to learn more. The names of the two legendary Pokemon have yet been revealed.

In the Japanese trailer, it was also revealed that there will be a customizable skin palette that was first used in Pokemon X and Y.

Pokemon Sun and Moon will be hitting stores and digital on November 18, 2016.
