Basic Privacy Policy

It is the strict policy of iGeekOut.Net that personal information, such as your name, postal and e-mail addresses or telephone number, is private and confidential.

Accordingly, the personal information you provide is stored in a secure location, is accessible only by designated staff, and is used only for the purposes for which you provide the information (such as to reply to your request or to handle your complaint.) For example, when you subscribe to a newsletter or automatic update, the information that you provide is used to process your subscription.

If at any time you would like to add or remove your name from any of our subscription lists, correct your information, or question how any information is used, you can send a personal email to LEE AT VITALNEWS.COM.

No Computer Tracking of Identifiable Information

Our computers are not set up to track, collect, or distribute personal information about visitors to this site. They do recognize the home server of visitors, but not e-mail addresses. For example, we can tell which Internet Service Provider (ISP) our visitors use, but not the names, addresses, or other information about our visitors that would allow us to identify the particular visitors to our sites. This information is used only for internal purposes by our staff.

Our computers also recognize the sites where a visitor linked to our site, but we cannot identify you, the visitor, or your address. Site information is used to verify the effectiveness of marketing efforts for our posts, updates, newsletters, and products. It may also be used to advise interested parties of the number of visitors who come to our site from their sites. No personal information is collected.

In addition, we track information about the visits to the various parts of our Website. For example, we compile statistics that show the number of visitors to our site, the daily requests we receive for particular files on, and where the requests come from. These aggregated statistics are used internally to better provide services to our visitors and may also be provided to others. These statistics provide an overview of how visitors use our site, but contain no personal information and cannot be used to gather such information.

No Release of Information to Third Parties

The personal information that you have entrusted to our care will not be released to third parties, except as necessary to fulfill a service you have requested. For instance, if you order a product from us, your payment information may be verified with a financial institution, and your e-mail or postal address will be used to send you the product. We will also release your personal information if required in a judicial or governmental investigation or proceeding.

There are no other circumstances under which we will provide or sell personal information to third parties, with one exception. If you provide us permission to share your e-mail address with others, we may do so, at our discretion. In this case, your address is stored in a “sharing list” that is separate and distinct from the newsletter subscription lists. You always have the opportunity to remove your name from our “sharing list,” if you so request. We honor such requests promptly and fully.

We will not share our update or newsletter subscription lists with others, period. We will not sell, distribute, post, copy, or otherwise disseminate your subscription e-mail address or other personal information to others.

Collection of Information by Third Parties

iGeekOut.Net relies on third parties to provide some of the advertising you see on our site. Information collected by those third parties, if any, is covered by those parties’ privacy policies and is beyond the ability of iGeekOut.Net to monitor or control. For instance, some third parties may collect information about your browsing preferences or habits. That information is not collected or maintained by iGeekOut.Net. Additionally, iGeekOut.Net relies upon Google Analytics and Bing Analytics to provide analytical information regarding the use of our sites. Information about privacy policies related to this service is available from Google and from Bing.

Contact information for the third parties that we use is available upon request to LEE AT VITALNEWS.COM.

NDAs and Embargos

It is the goal of iGeekOut.Net to provide content that is not only all-inclusive and timely, but also reliable. In order to do that prior to the public release of the items that we are covering, we often have to agree to things such as non-disclosure agreements (also known as NDAs) and embargos with the creators of the materials that we are covering. This common practice allows us to have better content prepared in advance of the general release of information from the producers of the content we are wishing to review. In the event of an embargo, particularly when the timing of the embargo may not serve our audience and staff, we may push back. That being said, the content or tone of the review will not be held hostage or used as a means to obtain an earlier exclusive or embargo date.

Another thing for our audience and contributors to consider is that there are times when an embargo is emplaced after a product has been released. iGeekOut.Net reserves the right to cover or disseminate information on a game, movie, show, book, and so on are legally released in any given market. What this means is that if a particular product is released on a Thursday in the United States, but isn’t going to be released until two weeks later in Europe, we will release our review then. This also applies internally to the United States of America, regardless of time zones.

Reviews

Who iGeekOut.Net assigns to review a particular game, movie, TV show, and so on are handled entirely by the editorial team. This decision also extends to the production, promotion, and even timing of the reviews. While general opinion and overall experience and “rating” of the product is entirely up to the reviewer, content will be edited by the Editorial Staff to ensure that a “professional” tone is carried by the review prior to publication. At no time is any kind of consideration made due to advertising, exclusive access, or potential future goodwill of the projects publishers that we cover. If there is any kind of sponsorship involved, these details are not disclosed at all to the reviewer assigned.

In effect, the opinion of iGeekOut.Net, or our review teams, are ever for sale at any price. They are completely managed by the editorial staff, and opinion expressed in the review is completely separate from the relationship that may, or may not, exist with the publisher.

Sponsorships

iGeekOut.Net editorial and sales decisions are made independently of one another. Those who are assigned to work on any review is ever aware of any sponsorship or advertisement details related to the company, unless it is a review that is being conducted by the Editor-in-Chief. This means that those who comprise the teams of reviewers are not aware of the amount spent, type of advertisement, or if there is even a sponsor at all. All contributors to iGeekOut.Net see the ads on the website in the same way that all visitors do…when they go up on the website. In short, the editorial priorities of iGeekOut.Net are not affected by advertising.

Travel, Meals, Gifts, etc.

There are times when it is required by members of the iGeekOut.Net staff to travel to events and meetings in order to gather and develop information for publication. This type of travel is covered by the budget set aside by iGeekOut.Net specifically for this purpose. While iGeekOut.Net does have a budget to pay for this type of activity, the editorial managers can accept travel and meals that are paid for by the companies that we are working with, as long as it is related to the content that is being produced or covered. iGeekOut.Net reimburses any staff member (and select premium contributors) for any business-related travel expenses, including paying for any meal meetings when we meet with publishers.

There is one exception to this policy, and that is if it is a review event that is being attended. In the case of review events, the critic/reviewer that has been assigned to the event is compensated solely by iGeekOut.Net.

Contributors for iGeekOut.Net at all levels are not allowed to accept any personal gift from a publisher, developer, or PR agency that is greater than $60.00, which is the cost of an average game. Gifts that are over $60.00 become the property of iGeekOut.Net, and the editorial team will determine whether the gift will remain in-house for production needs, or given away as community/contributor prizes. iGeekOut.Net contributors are never allowed, under ANY circumstances, to accept cash or its equivalent from companies that we do business with. At the discretion of the supervising editor, members of the review team can accept in-game currency only when it is related to review of a game or feature that is being reviewed in order to accurately portray what is provided by the feature.

Crowdfunding

While contributors and editorial staff are allowed to privately contribute to crowdfunding projects, they are not allowed to contribute in the name of iGeekOut.Net. In the event that a contributor or member of the editorial staff does contribute more than what the average game would cost a consumer ($60.00) then they are to notify their contact at iGeekOut.Net or manager so that they can be removed from consideration of any review of that project.

Relationships

The publishing industry is one that is very close knit, and as such it is not unheard of to have one person who works for a particular company leave and go to another one within the same field. All due consideration is taken to avoid any potential conflict of interest that may arise. In the event that a personal relationship exists between the initially assigned contributor and the person/company being reviewed, the project will be handled by a contributor (if possible) who does not have a particularly close relationship with the person/company being reviewed. In the event that the management of iGeekOut.Net determines that the contributor is able to provide coverage in a fair and non-biased manner, then they may still retain their initial assignment, though that relationship will be disclosed to any user/reader of the content.

Plagiarism

iGeekOut.Net produces a lot of content, and as such we are aware of how difficult it can be to do so. This means that if we are using other people’s content, information, or entertainment efforts to help produce our own content then we will credit those sources clearly in the article or video. iGeekOut.Net also can provide attribution for studies or other research that may be used to produce our own content. In the event that an error is made, iGeekOut.Net will make the appropriate and proper corrections with all due speed.

In the event that any protected content appears in any of the community-focused parts of the site (i.e., community forums, comments, etc.) please notify Lee Wyatt at LEE AT VITALNEWS.COM, who will look into the claims and make the final determination as to what happens with that content.

Non-iGeekOut.Net Content

Most, if not all, of the content creators for iGeekOut.Net produce (and promote) content that is not related to iGeekOut.net. This is usually done through their own Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, blogs, and various other kinds of feeds and pages. While they may provide content for iGeekOut.Net, they do not speak for iGeekOut.Net. In other words, iGeekOut.Net does not necessarily share the views and opinions that are expressed in these non-iGeekOut.Net venues.
